The Ruy Lopez Exchange (4.Bxc6) is Bobby Fischer's pet weapon — voluntarily trading the prized bishop pair for a permanent structural edge. By doubling Black's c-pawns, White creates a 4-vs-3 kingside majority that can produce a passed pawn in the endgame, while Black's queenside majority is crippled by the doubled pawns and can never produce one.
